‘Proofreading’: Layanan Prima Pengecekan Teks dan Contohnya

Proofreading adalah salah satu layanan prima yang diberikan oleh NE—NASBAT English. Proofreading adalah pengecekan teks untuk meyakinkan bahwa tidak ada kesalahan atau kekhilafan bahasa dalam teks—sedangkan isinya sudah harus benar dan menjadi tanggung jawab penuh penulisnya. Kalau diletakkan dalam Bahasa Inggris, tujuan proofreading adalah untuk meyakinkan bahwa the text reads smoothly. Yang rutin dikerjakan sekarang adalah proofreading skripsi dalam Bahasa Inggris dari mahasiswa program manajemen UNPAD dan makalah atau entri jurnal ilmiah dari dosen berbagai jurusan. Berikut adalah beberapa contoh. Bagian yang digarisbawahi adalah bagian yang diperbaiki dalam proses proofreading-nya:

1. Contoh dari skripsi mahasiswa manajemen:

“…Employees are social beings who become primary assets for any company. They become planners, implementers, and controllers who always play an active role in achieving the company’s goals. Employees become actors who support the achievement of goals, who have thoughts, and who own feelings and desires that can affect their attitudes towards their work. This attitude will determine work performance, dedication, and love for the work assigned to them. Positive attitudes must always be fostered, while negative attitudes should be avoided as early as possible (Hasibuan, 2011: 202).

A person can have a wide range of attitudes, but in the study of Organizational Behavior, attention focuses on a very limited number of attitudes associated with the work. Work attitude receives either a positive or negative evaluation addressed to employees regarding aspects of their work. Most of the researches are associated with 3 kinds of demeanor, namely, job satisfaction, job involvement, and organizational commitment…”

2. Contoh dari esai syarat pengajuan beasiswa:

“As a student of a business administration program, the activities that I do are inseparable from associations and business. In 2014, for example, I became the leader of the Research and Development Special Division at the Commerce Student Association. One of the ideas conceived by our division was channelling students’ aspirations towards the department. By presenting our research and evidence, the event ran smoothly with a little bit of debate to produce concrete solutions to the problems that arose. For instance, the quality of facilities especially toilets in the department was of a big concern; the students complained about how slow and inefficient the performance of administrative staffs regarding this issue was. Then there was also this problem with self-grooming (including being dressed in uniforms with complete attributes). Fortunately, this activity was very well appreciated by the students and lecturers alike in the department with the result that satisfied both parties. Toilet’s repair was carried out within a week by the department and the improved performance of administrative staffs had a positive impact on learning activities. In addition, we made several agreements with the department that required students to be disciplined in self-grooming…”

3. Contoh dari entri jurnal ilmiah:

“…From the sociocultural view, learning is a social process and experience through social interactions in various settings. Moreover, for human, mental activity appears in the interaction with others in a certain experience (Lantolf, 2000). Then Gredler (2009) also posits that social interactions with knowledgeable adults to scaffold the students beyond their capability are essential and significant. Particularly in language teaching, Lantolf (2000 in Atamturk, Atamturk, & Dimililer, 2018) asserts that it occurs in a social context in the social interaction with a more capable person. Through these interactions with adults, the students develop both meanings and ways to make use of symbols to facilitate learning. Meanwhile, more competent adults play a role as “the ideal-form” of behavior which serves as a model for what the students should do in a particular developmental stage (Gredler, 2009). For example, parental language input/model provided by parents may guide the child in producing language and developing language complexity (Sundari, 2016a). In other words, the adults, parents or teachers, help the students in controlling task elements, provide guidance to do the tasks, and assess the students’ understanding…”
