Songs Teach; They Outreach

(Posting on songs that teach, that outreach; by one NEB)

One good way of learning English that touches on a lot of aspects is listening to, enjoying, and singing romantic popular songs. For some people, this is a learning style; for others it is just a learning strategy; and still for most it is a hobby. Whichever the case is, learning English through romantic popular songs teaches you 2 kinds of things: First, they teach you aspects of the said language: grammar, reduced forms, sounds, pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, sound linking, collocation, chunking, and meaning; second, they make you identify yourself. This makes you feel that you are somehow represented by the songs. As such, you can feel happy; you can be sad; you can cry; you cherish your past; you want to turn back the clock and return to that one moment in time when you were there with the song describing you; you remember someone and you regret what happened to yourself and turn happy for him or her, still; you can go crazy; you can kill yourself softly keeping listening to the songs. In one status on my FB official page, I wrote:

“This is one of the 80’s songs by Lionel Richie that echo until today. For me, it mayn’t have identified any romantic feeling back then–apart from the fact that it sounded nice and served my early English learning purposes. It still sounds mighty nice after all this time. The only difference is that now it may say something about me having this feeling…”

Here, therefore, as they say and I believe that the 80’s render the best romantic popular songs, I present you the above said song by Lionel Richie. It is called ‘Stuck on You’. Look at the lyrics I provide and see if it is familiar to you; then tap on the 2-bar icon at the bottom left side of this site to turn off the site’s background music, and click this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_74QQ3v5CY to hear the song sung by Mr. Richie. You will instantly know that the song is featured instrumentally as the background music of this site. You can next click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYHMZqt8uUM to see the song performed by Mr. Richie many years later at a concert, this uploaded in 2013. Next when you’ve had enough of listening, you can karaoke: Sing the song to the site’s background instrumental music accompanying. Good luck; that is, I often jokingly say: “Those with good look have good luck” 🙂

Stuck On You

Stuck on you
(I’ve) got this feeling
Down deep in my soul
That I just can’t lose
Guess I’m on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now
I guess I’ll be with you till the end
Guess I’m on my way
Mighty glad you stayed

Stuck on you
Been a fool too long
I guess it’s time for me to come on home
Guess I’m on my way
So hard to see
That a woman like you could wait around
For a man like me
Guess I’m on my way
Mighty glad you stayed

Oh, I’m leaving on that midnight train tomorrow
And I know just where I’m going
I’ve packed up my troubles
And I’ve thrown them all the way
‘Coz this time little darling
I’m coming home to stay

I’m stuck on you
(I’ve) got this feeling
Down deep in my soul
That I just can’t lose
Guess I’m on my way
Needed a friend
And the way I feel now
I guess I’ll be with you till the end
Guess I’m on my way
Mighty glad you stayed

Hope you did it; hope you like it 😉
